Your kids are out of school for the holidays and looking forward to the long, lazy days and fun days of summer. Here are a few tips to keep them healthy and active.

  • Prepare Healthier Summer Meals

It’s easy to be tempted to get out of a regular routine with family meal times during summer. More often than not, parents turn to fast food. Be proactive this holiday and stick to a loose meal schedule, using seasonal vegetables to create healthy meals for the entire family to enjoy together.

  • Limit Screen Time

While this suggestion might make you cringe, we believe it’s for the better. Today’s kids have almost constant access to technology, including phones, tablets, TV, and video games. While these activities might keep them occupied long enough to give you that breather, try and limit your child’s screen time to one hour a day, encouraging them to go outside and play. This would help their social and cognitive skills.

  • Plan Activities with Cooler Temperatures

It’s great for kids to play outside during the summer without adverse health effects on their health. So, to help keep them active and cool at the same time, take them to the pool or beach, or have a water balloon fight. They’ll stay active and cool while having a blast! Remember to keep a watchful eye on them when they are close to large bodies of water!

  • Sunscreen

UV rays are concentrated in the summer, even on cloudy days. Keep sunscreen in your house and car to make sure your kids never go without it. Remember to apply sunscreen about 20 minutes before you go out in the sun and reapply after excessive sweat or swimming.

  • Plan Fun Outings

As a parent, it’s tough to keep your children occupied during long summer days. Cut the boredom with planned family outings. Take a nature walk next to a river, go to the park or the arcade, visit a museum or go swimming at a public pool.

  • Sign Up for A Fun Class

A great way to keep kids active in the summer is to sign up for a fun class that isn’t school related. Whether your kids join a baseball team, try their hands on crochet or learn to paint, they’ll have regular practices and games to keep them moving all summer.
